School programs
Primary School garden
Hooper Institute personnel bring programs to
each Walpole School on a weekly basis.
We work both inside and outside the classroom
conducting classes related to agriculture, forestry,
botany, soils and environmental science.
Gardens at each school are ideal locations to teach
about botany, food production and soils. All grades
study trees and wildlife.
Groups visit the Mill Pond Conservation area to study
pond life. A canoe trip for sixth graders culminates the
study of the Connecticut River watershed. Fourth graders participate in the Farm & Forest Project
by visiting local farms and forestry operations in the area to learn about livelihoods in our working
landscape.
