The Hooper Institute Educator and Director bring
programs to
each Walpole School throughout the
school year. In the 2025/2026 school year we are
teaching in all classes from PreK through seventh grade.

We work both inside and outside the classroom
conducting classes related to agriculture, forestry,
botany, soils and environmental science. Some topics covered this year include: insects, bats, leaf and tree ID, seed anatomy, and soil cycles.

Gardens at each school are ideal locations to teach about botany, food production and soils. Students from all grade levels are out in the gardens each year weeding, planting, harvesting, eating, tending and learning about the crops that are being grown. All food not directly consumed by students in the gardens goes to the school kitchens or Fall Mountain Food Shelf. Organic practices are utilized at all gardens.

Students also have the opportunity to get off campus on a variety of field trips. We utilize our close resources with visits to the Mill Pond Conservation area to study pond life and utilize school grounds to study trees and wildlife.  A canoe trip for sixth graders culminates the study of the Connecticut River watershed.
